Summary

The Formwork Engineer I assists in designing and preparing formwork layout drawings. Under the guidance of senior engineers, supports project planning to ensure the most efficient, safe, and economical form systems are incorporated into the project design.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Calculates preliminary loads for shoring, forming, and reshoring
• Determines member sizes and proper spacing
• Ensures formwork loads are within crane capacities
• Confirms framing layouts meet design load requirements
• Designs lifting and rigging equipment
• Designs temporary bracing for structures such as walls and floors
• Presents calculations for review to senior engineers
• Provides design calculations for formwork shop drawings
• Produces pour break drawings
• Produces preliminary crane layout drawings based on calculations
• Identifies safety issues on drawings
• Communicates with field teams on drawing conflicts and issues
• Reviews construction drawings for conflicts and clarifications
• Produces RFIs for resolving conflicts
• Produces repetitive layout drawings for typical formwork
• Maintains project drawing files
• Plots and assembles drawings per departmental standards
• Checks production drawings against construction documents
• Participates in transition meetings for production scheduling
• Provides quantity take-offs for form materials
• Monitors shop production relative to field progress
• Prepares work orders for shop pre-assembly
• Establishes delivery schedules for formwork
• Performs inspections of formwork installations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
• EIT credentials preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Basic understanding of BIM
