Location: Morris County, NJ (Greater Randolph, NJ Area)
Schedule: Onsite | Mon-Fri | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Type: Direct Hire
We are seeking a Formulations Chemist with a strong background in chemistry, chemical formulation, and product development. This hands-on role focuses on the design, development, and optimization of formulated products such as coatings, paints, inks, enamels, adhesives, emulsions, or cosmetic formulations. Ideal candidates will have a passion for innovative chemistry and a solid understanding of formulation science, material compatibility, raw material selection, and application testing.
Key Responsibilities: Formulate and reformulate products using organic and polymer chemistry principles
Develop stable and scalable chemical formulations for commercial applications
Design and execute laboratory experiments for rheology, viscosity, adhesion, stability, shelf life, and performance testing
Evaluate raw materials, surfactants, binders, resins, and additives
Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Marketing on new product launches
Support scale-up processes, pilot batches, and manufacturing transfer
Document and analyze experimental data; troubleshoot formulation issues
Conduct competitive benchmarking and stay current with industry trends and regulatory standards
Train and mentor junior chemists and lab technicians
Maintain compliance with all laboratory safety procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
5+ years of hands-on formulation experience in one or more of the following:
Coatings (water- or solvent-based)
Paints, Inks, or Enamels
Cosmetic or Personal Care Products
Adhesives, Sealants, or Polymers
Strong understanding of formulation design, raw material interaction, and chemical compatibility
Proficient in analytical techniques and lab instrumentation (e.g., viscometer, pH meter, FTIR, HPLC, DSC, etc.)
Excellent problem-solving and data interpretation skills
Strong project management and team collaboration capabilities
