Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Operate a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment for maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
• Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
• Construct ditches for culverts, water, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
• Check and maintain fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
• Instruct and train employees in safe operation and job techniques.
• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify issues or defects.
• Estimate sizes, distances, quantities, time, costs, resources, or materials needed for activities.
• Ensure subordinate work complies with plans and specifications, and address deficiencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant experience.
• Strong working knowledge and skills for the position.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively.
• Proficiency in using electrical, hand, power, layout, and measurement tools.

Requirements

• Ability to move about construction sites, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
• Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds to access equipment or work areas.
• Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven environments.
• Complete tasks in noisy and dusty conditions.
• Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Possession of required tools and possibly a US driver’s license.
• Comply with safety and project rules, and pass drug, medical, and background checks.
