Job description

The Forklift Operator/Expeditor is responsible for transporting materials throughout the facility. Primarily this material is coiled steel. Weights range from one ton to ten tons per lift. This role involves various tasks that change daily based on the mill's and customers' needs. The position collaborates closely with the finish slitters, banders, and shipping department. Responsibilities include aligning scheduled materials per machine, handling scrap hoppers, and expediting materials based on customer requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and a problem solver who can safely and efficiently manage assignments to support facility productivity.

Salary Range: $21-$25/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Safety: Ensure all safety protocols for forklift/heavy equipment are followed. Complete and log daily equipment checks and inspections.
  • Material Handling: Move and stage materials for optimal machine efficiency. Support machines by emptying scrap tubs and clearing finished products. Locate materials into finished goods as needed.
  • Cross-Functional Team Member: Assist with material handling tasks, including marking picklists, aligning orders per machine, and emptying scrap hoppers.
  • Initiative: Drive personal, team, customer, and company success.
  • Ownership: Work within our philosophy and take ownership of the mill and crew.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in the transformation process and use daily improvement tools.
  • Support: Provide assistance for Bay 4 Crane operations and Shipping/Receiving tasks as required.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned and assist with material handling on machines as needed.
  • Attendance: Maintain a high attendance rate.
