Forklift Operator - Bulk Unloader

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The Forklift Operator in Shipping and Receiving is primarily responsible for safely and efficiently picking and pulling orders, loading trucks, and unloading and processing incoming bulk rail and hopper trucks.

  • Safely and efficiently operate forklifts according to training and company safety policies.
  • Read and understand Bills of Lading and Pick Sheets.
  • Using daily pick sheets, accurately and efficiently pick full pallets and case quantities to build full pallets, ensuring first in first out method is followed, shrink wrap pallets when necessary, stage product for loading, check pallets for accuracy to order.
  • Safely load and unload product and other supplies to/from trucks using appropriate forklifts. Obtains samples of incoming bulk product according to Quality Control Guidelines. Places product in appropriate storage areas.
  • Shrinkwrap finished good pallets and transport/store into appropriate locations.
  • Maintain clean and organized aisles and rack storage, consolidate partial pallets when needed. Ensure products, including partial pallets, are organized according to the first in first out inventory methodology.
  • Efficiently unloads product from railcars and hopper trucks and keeps product waste to a minimum.
  • Obtains samples from railcars and hopper trucks.
  • Positions railcars into unloading spots using hand jack system.
  • Weighs, tags, and stores/stacks product bins at heights using a forklift.
  • Cleans empty railcars.
  • Follows proper confined space procedures when obtaining samples and cleaning.
  • Verifies empty bins are clean before unloading product into them.
  • Cleans pits and all other unloading areas according to SQF guidelines.
  • Properly mixes product for soup mix.
  • Properly weighs and tags product salvage.
  • Correctly completes required paperwork.
  • Act as a back up in Shipping and Receiving department picking and pulling orders; loadiing and unloading trucks.
  • Comply with company safety policies and maintain clean and orderly work area.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures.
  • Accurately complete required paperwork in accordance with company standards.
  • Additional duties as assigned by lead person and/or manage.
Working environment and physical demands
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Lift, carry and/or move items up to 100 pounds, without assistance; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, to verbally communicate; and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently works at heights of more than 4ft, wearing fall protection.
  • Frequently exposed to a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to dust and loud noise.
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to machinery and mechanical, moving parts.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair net, and food safety-related items, is required.
WHAT WE NEED
  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • 1 + years recent experience operating Sit Down forklift in a warehouse environment.
  • Must be able to meet daily production requirements.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Read and comprehend required paperwork.
  • Writing skills sufficient to complete required paperwork.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Must display a positive attitude and work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of employees whether individually or in a team environment.
  • Effectively communicate questions, problems and reports to co-workers, supervisory and management personnel.
  • Flexibility to accommodate unscheduled changes in duties and work overtime as needed.
Preferred education and experience
  • 1+ years operating Sit Down and Stand Up reach forklifts in a fast paced warehouse environment.
