Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Forklift Operator to load and unload materials, move items to storage areas, machines and loading docks. You will operate and care for the forklift, participate in cross training, and complete required quality tests and inspections to ensure safety and product integrity.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, be able to read and interpret safety rules and manuals, perform basic arithmetic, and pass a background check and drug screening.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences and memos.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to perform intermediate arithmetic dealing with decimals, fractions, ratios, etc.
• Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Maintain good attendance.
• Perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Load/Unload trailers in a safe manner.

Job description

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating and managing industrial trucks to load and unload materials. The Forklift Operator shall move materials to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks and into railroad cars, trucks or storage areas. They are responsible for all activities associated with safely operating and caring for the forklift and the proper operation of the forklift. In addition, is responsible for participating in cross training efforts for specific plant needs and sharing those duties with other drivers. Duties also include the completion of all required quality tests and inspections and notifying supervisors of any observed concerns in the production area related to either product handled or the safety of the facility.
