Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a reliable Shipping Forklift Operator to safely handle loading, unloading, and organizing finished goods in our Houston warehouse. You will follow LOTO procedures, verify counts, and maintain accurate stock locations.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift 25-50 lbs, read a tape measure, and prior forklift experience in a corrugated box environment. Overtime may be necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Able to read, speak, write and comprehend basic English.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
• Good physical condition, i.e. able to lift 25-50# on a consistent basis.
• Read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
• Prior shipping forklift experience is required.
• Prior work experience in the corrugated box industry.

Responsibilities

• Operate and care for the forklift in a safe manner.
• Load and unload trailers, including sheet orders with or without pallets.
• Take finished product from the unitizer line and store in proper locations in the shipping department; scan units into proper locations.
• Check units and load tags for accuracy; report problems to supervision.
• Complete and document a forklift inspection form before the start of the shift and when operating a new forklift.
• Ensure proper bands, wrap, and coverings on loaded trailers for protection and appearance.
• Maintain stock locations and transfer units in the computer and paperwork.
• Follow LOTO procedure and notify supervision of needed repairs.
• Regular and timely attendance required.

• Operate and care for the forklift in a safe manner
• Load and unload trailers, including sheet orders with or without pallets
• Take finished product from the unitizer line and store in proper locations in the shipping department; this includes the shipping line in the corrugator. Scan all units into proper locations
• Check units and load tags for accuracy; report any problems to supervision as they occur
• Complete and document a forklift inspection form before the start of the shift and when operating a new forklift; turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs
• Ensure that all units loaded on trailers for delivery have proper number of bands in proper locations, adequate cover sheets, adequate stretch wrap if necessary, and any other details which may affect the appearance or protection of the units
• Locate stock before the start of the run
• Deliver appropriate stock to appropriate machines
• Remove finished goods from machines
• Maintain, neat, orderly, and safe stacks of stock in storage areas
• Maintain accurate location of stock ins storage area by paperwork/ computer
• Transfer units manually in the computer
• Look up history of unitized inventory
• Hand unitize units as necessary
• Hand wrap units together as necessary
• Complete necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner
• Assist other forklift operators as necessary
• Follow LOTO procedure
• Notify supervision of needed repairs
• Regular and timely attendance required
