Job summary

Ryerson is hiring a Utility Operator in the United States. You will assemble materials for shipment and operate equipment per orders, with duties including counting, weighing, and recording data. You may substitute forabsent roles and must help maintain safety, quality, and productivity.

The position offers an apprenticeship onboarding path and requires some manufacturing or warehouse experience; forklift and crane experience are preferred, along with SAP familiarity. Union contract applies.

Qualifications

• Must pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Some manufacturing or warehouse experience is required.
• Certified fork truck experience is preferred.
• Crane experience is preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks).
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material; SAP experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed daily.
• Assemble material for shipment or machines according to orders and specifications.
• Select material from heats or based on physical condition per orders.
• Record heat numbers, weights, lengths and other required data on orders.
• Unload and receive material, weigh and count, verify sizes, and place into stock areas.
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required.
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards for each assignment.
