Job summary

Cleveland Metroparks is seeking a Forestry Laborer to join a team of arborists responsible for pruning and safely removing trees in the park district’s high-use areas. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and practical field skills.

Key duties include manual tree climbing, operating arboriculture equipment, leading and training others, performing basic equipment maintenance, and coordinating tasks to ensure timely completion of arboriculture projects across busy park spaces.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates proficiency in manually climbing trees (tree climbing).
• Proficient knowledge of equipment operation pertinent to arboriculture.
• Ability to lead and train other employees in arboriculture trades.
• General knowledge of equipment maintenance and basic repairs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency of manually climbing trees.
• Proficient knowledge of equipment operation pertinent to the field of arboriculture.
• Uses independent judgment and demonstrates initiative in completing assigned work tasks.
• Demonstrates technical knowledge in the proper plant material identification, pruning, and tree removal process.
• Performs general mechanical repairs on equipment beyond first echelon of maintenance.
• Instructs/trains and leads other employees in arboriculture skills.
• Coordinates and completes arboriculture tasks in high-use park areas.
• Operates and maintains at least 2 of the following equipment: aerial bucket, chipper, stump cutter and front-end loader, and specialized-trade tools.
• Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.

• Operates and maintains at least 2 of the following equipment: aerial bucket, chipper, stump cutter and front-end loader, and specialskilled-trade tools.
• Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.
