Job summary

County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates for a forestry/technical inspection role. The position includes directing field crews, conducting inspections, educating the public, and preparing projects to protect life and property.

Applicants must have a forestry-related degree, a California driver license, EMT-1 certification within a year, and pass a background/medical exam. Willingness to work varied shifts and environments is required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college with specialization in forestry or a related field.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License is required; a California Class B Commercial Driver License with water tank, air brake and passenger endorsements is required within one year from date of appointment.
  • EMT-1 certification must be obtained within one year from time of appointment.
  • Background check and medical examination are required.
  • Physical requirements include 4 - Arduous class with ability for frequent heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees field work by directing field crews and volunteers in forestry projects.
  • Conducts enforcement inspections and communicates findings to property owners.
  • Educates the public at community events and presentations.
  • Prepares forestry projects by evaluating conditions and selecting plant species.
  • Develops GIS maps using field data to assess forest health.
  • Staffs the 24-hour Henninger Flats facility and participates in related programs.
  • Responds to 24-hour emergency incidents supporting logistics.
