Montana Conservation Corps in Montana is seeking a Forestry Crew Member to participate in conservation projects with AmeriCorps. Crews camp in remote locations and complete natural resource work across varied terrain, weather, and seasons.

You will gain hands-on experience, health coverage, and an education award upon successful completion. The program runs May 11, 2026 to October 16, 2026, ages 17–30, full-time, uniforms provided, and diverse field assignments.

Job description

Montana Conservation Corps' (MCC) mission is to inspire young people through hands-on conservation service to be leaders, stewards of the land and engaged citizens who improve their communities. Founded in 1991, MCC is a private, nonprofit organization. There are 4 regions, with approximately 40 staff and 300 members who serve each year in leader, member or intern positions. MCC receives Federal grant money through the Corporation for National & Community Service. This grant is used to provide participant stipends and education awards, as well as to support our programming: offering leadership development to Leaders and Members. MCC offers crew-based programming that uses natural resource and community service projects to foster personal and crew development. While most of the work we accomplish is in the field, our main goal is not to build trails but to help members develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to be active citizens in their community.

Member Duties

The Crew Member (CM) will assist in the completion of MCC natural resource projects. Crews will camp for most of their terms, often in remote locations. Crews work on varied terrain and in all weather conditions. Work may include maintaining trails, treating invasive species, building fences, operating chainsaws to reduce wildfire risks by thinning trees, and many other types of projects. Not all members will work on all types of projects. Crews may be deployed for natural disaster relief. The CM is an AmeriCorps member and is entitled to the benefit package offered to all AmeriCorps members.
