National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) is seeking an experienced Forester to support NRCS ACES program activities in California. The role is non-federal, focus on conservation planning and technical assistance, and targets experienced workers aged 55+.

Qualifications

• Minimum 20 years of Forestry experience or MA/MS in Agriculture/Natural Resources/Biology.
• Valid CA Registered Professional Forester License required.

• Experience with NRCS conservation planning process.

Responsibilities

• Provide forestry planning and implementation support to the state.

This position is a non-federal role funded through an existing agreement between NRCS and NEW Solutions. The enrollee will provide direct support to farmers and landowners, enabling the implementation of conservation practices on the ground. This role contributes to NRCS's mission by enhancing capacity in field offices and ensuring timely assistance to producers. It is designed to free up NRCS staff for emergency and high-priority responses, not to replace federal staff.

This role helps ensure continued progress on conservation planning, practice implementation, and technical assistance, especially in high-demand or disaster-affected areas. It aligns with the Administration's priorities for farmer-first, field-facing, and partner-enabled capacity expansion.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS). These are experienced professionals who provide technical and professional assistance to the Department of Agriculture for the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

Qualifications

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Forestry work. OR MA/MS Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Biology, or related field of study.

• Valid State Driver's License.
• Knowledge of NRCS conservation planning process.
• Knowledge of conservation organizations and cultures.
• Valid California Registered Professional Forester License required.
• Experience required with Windows, MS Word

Duties

Provide support to the entire state for forestry planning and implementation.

• Provide technical assistance with conservation planning. Development of Conservation Plans to implement EQIP. Provide technical support for EQIP Program implementation (I.e. CPA-52, cultural resources surveys, alternatives, etc.).40%
• Provide oversight and technical review of conservation practice specifications on forest land.40%
• Provide technical review of Forestry Conservation Activity Plans (CAP).10%
• Assist with OJT training, conservation planning training, and planning certification.10%

• Training provided by NRCS staff if needed.
• Travel Requirements: Travel to assigned field offices and field sites. Government vehicle will be provided as needed for official business.
• Overnight travel: Up to 24 days of travel.
