Salary for a trainee may be set lower than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the post. The salary is adjusted as the trainee obtains the additional education and experience to fully meet the position qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.”
The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is designated as an emergency response Division and a team of professionals who provide forest protection, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of NC through a variety of programs. The NCFS provides services to the 100 counties in NC.
The B.R.I.D.G.E. (Building, Rehabilitating, Instructing, Developing, Growing, Employing) Program is a cooperative effort between the NC Forest Service and NC Department of Public Safety. The primary goal of the program is to provide well-trained and equipped forest firefighting crews ready at a moment's notice.
The Project leader is responsible for safety, security, and training of young offenders (age ranges 18-36). The employee will provide training in a variety of forestry and community-based work projects, such as fire control, forest management, trail construction, nursery work, variety of vocational projects and emergency situations. Duties are carried out in a variety of conditions and on a variety of state, federal, private, and public lands with an area of responsibility within the 32 counties of Western NC.
Work hours are typically 8-5 Monday – Friday. Evening, holiday and/or weekend work is required during response to wildland fires and other all-hazard responses. Overnight travel may be required for training and other work.
Official NCFS uniforms and vehicle are provided for official work use.

Must be cleared by the National Criminal Information Computer (NCIC) Must obtain certification as a Custodial Agent for the State Division of Adult Correction within 90 days of employment.
