Job Opportunity: Forest Firefighter - Florida Forest Service

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Forest Firefighter within the Florida Forest Service. This is an open competitive opportunity.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years old.
  2. No felony or certain misdemeanor convictions; not dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces.
  3. Submit a fingerprint card and pay a processing fee.
  4. Possess good moral character after investigation.
  5. Be in good physical condition, as determined by a medical exam.
  6. Be a non-user of tobacco products for at least one year prior to application.
  7. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within three months of employment.
  • Occasional travel and emergency response duties.
  • Residency within 30 miles of the headquarters in Groveland, FL.
  • Completion of a fire fighter training program and obtaining a Certificate of Compliance.
  • Pass pre-employment drug and physical fitness tests; post-employment drug testing and medical exams.
  • Background screening including fingerprinting.
Job Duties:

Responsibilities include forest fire prevention, detection, suppression, providing forestry services, assisting with land management, and public education. Operate firefighting equipment, investigate wildfires, conduct inspections, and respond to emergencies.
