Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is recruiting a Forest Maintenance Worker for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in Lackawanna County, PA. The seasonal, full-time role involves hands-on work maintaining forest infrastructure, grounds, and equipment, with duties across wildfire support and boundary work.

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, March to November, with no health benefits. Telework is not available; residency in PA is required.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in laboring work, including use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Facility and infrastructure care: Maintain and construct roads, trails, district facilities, and forest infrastructure.
• Grounds upkeep: Mow and clear vegetation at offices, field locations, trails, picnic areas, parking lots, signs, and fire towers.
• Equipment maintenance: Inspect and service vehicles, tools, and equipment to keep them in ready condition.
• Wildfire assistance: Support wildfire prevention, detection, suppression, and training activities.
• Boundary work: Tag, paint, and clear boundary lines throughout state forest land.
• Construction support: Install and repair signs, gates, and kiosks, including digging, forming, mixing concrete, and painting.
