Job summary

Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry seeks an Aircraft Pilot for firefighting operations at Oakdale Airport (KACP), LA, Allen Parish. You will operate a single-engine aircraft for fire patrol, suppression, and support missions, communicating with ATC and ground crews.

The job requires FAA Commercial Pilot with instrument rating and a valid medical certificate, plus endorsements for complex and high-performance aircraft.

Qualifications

• FAA first-class or second-class medical certificate is required.
• FAA Commercial Pilot license with instrument rating with 500 hours of flight time.
• FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a single-engine airplane in wild land fire detection and suppression.
• Report wildfires to the appropriate dispatcher or supervisor.
• Support fire suppression by directing crews and providing flight data to ground teams.
• Conduct insect/disease survey flights using a preset grid for aerial observations.
• Assess weather and visibility conditions and decide on flying suitability, under guidance and safety rules.
• Complete aviation safety continuing education quarterly and recertify annually.
• Maintain and file flight records, plans, and required aircraft documentation.
• Transport personnel and materials as necessary for forestry operations.
