Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem Regional Laboratory is seeking a Forensic Scientist Trainee. This full-time role offers structured hands-on forensic training in biological evidence testing, hair identification, and courtroom documentation while supporting laboratory operations.

You will train with experts, perform supervised serology tests, document results, and develop the skills needed for independent work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science, or a closely related physical or natural science, with 16 college chemistry credits.
• Applicants may be considered within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Must meet PA residency requirements.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions and pass background/CJIS checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform serology testing under supervision and prepare reports based on results.
• Train in analyzing fluids and hairs and in preparing court reports.
• Maintain detailed records of testing procedures and results.
• Conduct supervised hair identifications and report findings to requesting agencies.
• Learn proper evidence collection, preservation, and management techniques.
• Complete required testing and participate in mock trials to demonstrate proficiency.
