Job summary

University of Central Oklahoma is seeking a Digital Forensics faculty member to maintain and enhance the digital curriculum across undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The role supports teaching, research, and service missions within the Forensic Science Institute.

The selected candidate will teach Digital Evidence, Digital Forensics and Lab, and related courses, mentor graduate projects, and participate in interagency collaboration. Doctoral degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree in digital forensics or related discipline.
  • Teaching and mentoring experience at college/university level.
  • Experience with digital forensics software tools (Cellebrite, FTK, Magnet AXIOM, EnCase).
  • Experience in lab management, accreditation, and legal/ethical oversight.
  • Demonstrated academic research success and presentations.
  • Doctoral degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach, advise, and mentor students; evaluate performance and keep records.
  • Develop and update digital forensics curriculum for undergrad and graduate levels.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and professional peers.
  • Engage in teaching, service, and scholarly activities in line with tenure policies.

Position Overview

The Forensic Science Institute (FSI) at the University of Central Oklahoma is dedicated to comprehensive training and research for students, professionals, and first responders in all aspects of evidence collection, preservation, analysis, reporting, and testimony. The Institute is a leading provider of forensic science education at the undergraduate and graduate level through an interdisciplinary program accredited by FEPAC. It employs experienced faculty who are leaders and researchers in their respective fields.

The FSI currently has one Digital Forensics position available due to retirement. The selected candidate will maintain and enhance the digital curriculum across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels and support the Institute’s teaching, research, and service missions.

Responsibilities
  • Teach, advise, and mentor students; evaluate student performance; keep department and student records in accordance with university policies.
  • Adhere to the educational philosophy of the university.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and professional peers.
  • Participate in faculty‑specific university meetings.
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees as requested.
  • Prepare departmental reports as requested.
  • Engage in teaching, service, and scholarly activities consistent with the tenure and promotion policy.
  • Assist the FSI Director in developing new digital forensics courses and curriculum updates.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses including Digital Evidence, Digital Forensics and Lab, Digital Forensics Tools and Analysis and Lab, Mobile Device Forensics and Lab, and Network Forensics and Lab.
  • Provide instruction on legal requirements and expert witness testimony related to forensic evidence.
  • Participate in research activities, mentor graduate projects, and pursue external funding.
  • Develop and deliver in‑service, career, and continuing‑education training in forensic sciences.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Earned master’s degree in Digital Forensics, Forensic Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline (required).
  • Previous forensic lab experience in digital forensics, network forensics, cyber security, or related training and certifications.
  • Proficiency with digital forensic software tools such as Cellebrite, Forensic Toolkit, Magnet Axiom, and EnCase.
  • Experience in forensic lab management, casework, evidence management, personnel, financial/resource, quality assurance, accreditation, facilities, health and safety, and legal/ethical oversight.
  • Teaching and mentoring experience at the college or university level in digital forensics.
  • Demonstrated academic research success and professional presentations in digital forensics.
  • Membership in professional organizations or board certification in digital forensics (e.g., Certified Forensic Computer Examiner, GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner).
  • Experience with expert or lay witness testimony in digital forensics.
  • Proven success in interagency collaboration and professional networking.
  • Earned doctoral degree (preferred).
