Job summary

City of Denton seeks a forensic professional to identify and analyze physical and digital evidence for criminal investigations. You will document, preserve, and collect DNA and trace evidence, conduct analytical examinations, and maintain chain of custody for laboratory analysis.

Preferred candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in forensic science or related field, plus certification (CCSI/CCSA/CSCSA) within two years. Strong communication and independent work skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field; and two years’ experience in collection or testing of forensic evidence, or related field.
• Must obtain a CCSI/CCSA/CSCSA certification within two years of employment; or have one of these certifications.
• Any combination of related education and experience that enables performing essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Locate, document, develop, preserve, and collect DNA, trace, evidence, impression evidence, and friction ridge detail using sequential processing and advanced photography.
• Conduct analytical examinations on physical and digital evidence; form conclusions and opinions about actions of subjects.
• Maintain chain of custody and coordinate submission to crime laboratories.
• Prepare timely reports documenting case involvement and educate stakeholders.
• Serve as an expert witness in criminal and administrative proceedings as needed.
• Stay current on laws, trends, and best practices; attend trainings to maintain expertise.
