Job summary

City of Denton seeks a qualified crime scene investigator with a Bachelor’s degree in forensic science or related field and 2+ years of evidence handling experience. You will collect DNA, trace evidence, and photographs, while maintaining strict chain of custody.

Expect to prepare reports and educate prosecutors, judges, and detectives, with opportunities to testify as an expert witness. Requirements include certification within two years and the ability to work in a laboratory setting under

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field.
• Two (2) years’ experience in collection or testing of forensic evidence.
• Must obtain a valid CCSI/CCSA/CSCSA certification within two years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Locate, document, collect DNA, trace, and impression evidence with advanced photography and alternate light sources.
• Conduct analytical examinations on physical and digital evidence and form conclusions relevant to actions of subjects.
• Maintain chain of custody and coordinate submission for laboratory analysis and prosecution as appropriate.
• Prepare reports documenting case involvement in a timely manner.
• Educate internal and external stakeholders including detectives, prosecutors, judges, and juries as appropriate.
• Serve as an expert witness in criminal and administrative proceedings when needed.
