Job summary

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) invites qualified physicians to apply for the Associate Medical Examiner (Forensic Pathologist) position at the headquarters in Decatur, GA. This role conducts medicolegal autopsies and prepares reports for legal proceedings within a CALEA-accredited system.

Candidates must hold an MD, complete an Anatomic Pathology residency and Forensic Pathology fellowship, and be ABP-certified or eligible in Forensic Pathology.

Qualifications

• Medical Doctor licensed to practice in Georgia or able to obtain licensure.
• Successful completion of Anatomic Pathology residency and Forensic Pathology fellowship.
• Board certified by ABP in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology.
• Board certified or eligible for certification by ABP in Forensic Pathology.
• Selected candidates must obtain board certification in Forensic Pathology when eligible.

Responsibilities

• Perform medicolegal autopsies under the Georgia Death Investigation Act.
• Generate examination reports promptly for dissemination.
• Provide expert courtroom and deposition testimony as needed.
• Consult with law enforcement and attorneys in criminal cases.
