Job description

SAFE Alliance seeks a Forensic Nurse for the Community Services Program in the Sexual Assault Services department. The Forensic Nurse Examiner is responsible for providing timely, non-judgmental, compassionate, trauma-informed care to patients requesting medical forensic examination, under minimal supervision and in accord with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, all applicable confidentiality laws and policies, and professional nursing standards.

The SAFE Alliance exists to stop abuse for everyone by serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence. We are dedicated to ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse.

In the past two years, our community outreach and education has provided over 400 trainings to over 7,000 community members. Our various housing and shelter programs have provided over 46,000 nights/days of care and served over 3,000 youth and adults directly affected by abuse. We have provided over 10,000 callers/chats/texts, walk-in advocacy and crisis interventions or face-to-face emotional support through our 24/7 confidential SAFEline.

We need you to fill the role of PRN Forensic Nurse. This is an as needed position at our forensic nursing clinic in southeast Austin. Some travel to area hospitals is required and some remote work is expected at this time. We will pay you $375 per evidence collection encounter and $33.70 per hour for meetings and additional duties. The work location will be at our all major SAFE Alliance Campuses in the Austin metroplex. This position will include some travel with no ability for remote/hybrid work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a Texas or compact state RN license required.
  • Have at least two years' nursing experience required.
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification with the Texas Office of the Attorney General or the International Association of Forensic Nurses or ability to certify with either.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Night and weekend call ins are mandatory for this position.
  • Have a valid, State of Texas Driver's License (If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver's License within 90 days of beginning employment.) AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age AND an acceptable driving record that covers at least the last three years of driver history.
  • Required vaccination for: COVID-19, Measles, mumps, rubella x2, or positive titer Varicella x2, positive titer, or medically documented history of having the disease. Current seasonal flu vaccine or a signed declination Hepatitis B x3, positive titer, or a signed declination Tdap vaccination or a signed declamation.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check if applicable), as well as a pre-employment drug screen and TB test, if applicable.
  • All employees are required to comply with policies regarding COVID-19, which may be subject to change.
