Job summary

City of Sunrise is seeking a Crime Scene Investigator for the Police Department to identify, collect, classify, and maintain criminal evidence from indoor and outdoor scenes; photograph scenes; and prepare diagrams and court documentation.

The role requires handling fingerprint and DNA evidence, maintaining CJIS Level 4 certification, and providing expert testimony in court; rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in crime scene technology, forensics, or closely related field.
• Considerable experience as a Crime Scene Investigator for a government entity can substitute for degree.
• Proof of highest education must be submitted with application.

Responsibilities

• Searches for and lifts fingerprint evidence; submits to crime lab.
• Collects DNA and ensures processing of DNA evidence.
• Searches for, collects, preserves, and identifies physical evidence at crime scenes.
• Operates photo/video equipment; photographs and processes crime scenes; photographs deceased persons.
• Documents, collects, and preserves crime scene evidence; maintains logs and records.
• Provides testimony in court as an expert witness.
• Operates mobile crime laboratory and transports equipment to scenes.
• Files reports and related investigative information; answers inquiries.
