Job summary

Durham County is seeking a Child Welfare Social Worker in the Forensics Unit to conduct forensic assessments, interview children, and coordinate with medical, law enforcement, and other partners. The role supports complex cases of abuse and maltreatment within North Carolina law.

The incumbent will prepare court documentation, contribute to case planning, and apply child welfare policies in high-risk situations, with a focus on safety and family outcomes. A valid NC driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work with 2+ years of social work/counseling experience.
• Counseling field master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide forensic child welfare services for complex cases involving alleged or substantiated maltreatment.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of child safety and family needs.
• Utilize forensic interviewing techniques and professional judgment.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary community partners (medical, law enforcement).
• Prepare court summaries and participate in court proceedings.
• Integrate policies with forensic investigation and legal requirements.
