Position Summary: The Underground Foreman position is a skilled role in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems.
Essential Functions:
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized underground systems.
- Coach and lead crew members effectively.
- Possess strong leadership and management skills.
- Train lower-skilled employees in safe and efficient work procedures.
- Lead and instruct on underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate safety briefings.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of underground distribution systems.
- Troubleshoot underground circuit problems.
- Work around energized high-voltage systems with care to ensure safety.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Complete required reporting and paperwork.
- Inspect and coordinate the work of crew members.
- Perform rigorous physical labor as needed.
- Identify primary and secondary voltages on circuits.
- Be familiar with induced voltage and tools for terminating cables.
- Understand grounding procedures and how to obtain a one-shot on reclosers.
- Work in confined spaces safely.
- Properly install, remove, and inspect PPE and cover-up gear.
- Test and classify soil samples.
- Operate equipment safely and effectively.
- Phase out lines using phasing sticks.
- Plan safe work procedures based on job prints or work orders.
- Follow sloping and shoring requirements.
- Understand ladder safety requirements.
- Request and obtain line clearances properly.
- Identify underground pulling equipment and line protection devices.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE regularly.
- Follow flag and tag procedures.
- Work outdoors frequently, often in inclement weather.
- Glove and work live high-voltage lines safely.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 5 years of recent field experience in underground electrical work.
- Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.
- Effective communication skills in English.
- Possess a valid CDL and demonstrate safe driving habits.
- Ability to travel long distances on short notice.
- Work in various locations for extended periods.
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle, and reach.
Work Environment: Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions. Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions, often in loud environments.
