Job summary

PURIS is seeking a hands-on Foreman in Houston to supervise daily open cut construction activities and actively operate heavy equipment. This role ensures safety, efficiency, and adherence to project specs and schedules, serving as the main field contact for communication and production tracking.

The Foreman will coordinate crews, review plans, manage timesheets and reports, and maintain documentation while travelling as project needs require.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in underground utility construction, open cut construction, pipeline construction, or related field operations.
  • Experience operating track hoes/excavators required.
  • Previous Foreman, Lead Operator, Superintendent, or crew leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with trench box systems, utility installation, and excavation operations required.
  • Experience with asphalt restoration, cast-in-place manholes, and basic concrete patching preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation practices, grades, elevations, shots, cut/fill calculations, and utility construction methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, project drawings, and utility plans.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English with employees, inspectors, customers, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate daily activities of assigned open cut construction crews.
  • Safely operate track hoes/excavators and other heavy equipment as required to support project activities.
  • Plan and organize daily work to ensure production goals, quality standards, and project schedules are achieved.
  • Review grades, elevations, shots, and cut/fill requirements to ensure accurate installation and construction activities.
  • Read and interpret project plans, utility drawings, and basic blueprints.
  • Complete and submit daily timesheets, production reports, and field documentation.
  • Track and report daily production quantities and project progress.
  • Maintain and organize project receipts, material tickets, and related documentation.
  • Communicate daily with Project Managers and Operations Managers regarding project status, manpower, equipment, materials, and schedule needs.
  • Report project issues, delays, safety concerns, and equipment problems promptly.
  • Conduct and document daily equipment inspections and communicate maintenance needs.
  • Photograph equipment condition upon receipt and provide documentation to Transportation and Project Management personnel.
  • Ensure all crew members have the required tools, equipment, and PPE to perform work safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain and update project redlines and as-built field documentation daily.
  • Coordinate and communicate with inspectors, utility representatives, customers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist with and oversee restoration work including small asphalt patches, cast-in-place manholes, and basic concrete repairs as required.
  • Train and direct crew members in safe work practices, trench safety requirements, and proper construction procedures.
  • Monitor crew productivity, workmanship, and compliance with company safety standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and proper PPE compliance.
  • Confined Space Entry Certification preferred but not required.
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and implement solutions in the field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods as project needs require.
  • Ability to accurately track production, labor, equipment utilization, and project documentation.
  • Must successfully pass required pre-employment screenings, including drug testing.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, operate heavy equipment, and perform physical labor in outdoor environments. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and work around excavation sites, underground utilities, traffic, and active construction operations.
