Job summary

ONE Gas, Inc. is seeking an experienced field supervisor for advanced inspection work on a pipeline system.

The role involves overseeing crews, inspecting installation and maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with company and government standards. Responsibilities include driving and maintaining crew vehicles, operating tools, maintaining logs, and training staff in welding and plastic fusion construction.

Qualifications

  • Seven to ten years of relevant experience. (Minimum of six years’ relevant experience)
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of tools/equipment used in pipeline construction and maintenance
  • Familiar with basic arithmetic and measurement
  • Experience in transmission/distribution pipeline systems construction/maintenance
  • Knowledge of welding policies, regulators, meters, and leakage survey
  • Fluent reading/writing in English

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspect work by employees/contractors on transmission and distribution pipelines.
  • Drive and maintain crew truck; load/unload and operate tools and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Train and direct employees in welding, plastic fusion construction and maintenance.
  • Maintain logs and prepare reports (completion, inspection, training, accidents, orders).
  • Review invoices for pricing, quantities, and materials used.
  • Investigate customer orders and emergencies (low pressure calls, leaks, fires).
  • Inform customers/contractors about work in progress.

Job description

Performs an advanced level of inspection work, assists and oversees employees engaged in the construction, maintenance and operation of a pipeline system and related facilities.

Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, inspect work performed by employees and/or contractors and assist employees in installation, maintenance and removal work on transmission and distribution pipelines to ensure compliance and/or identify noncompliance with company and government standards.
  • Drive and maintain crew truck. Load, unload and operate tools and equipment including but not limited to:
    • Pipe and crescent wrenches
    • Pipe cutters and threads
    • Air compressors and generators
    • Plastic fusion irons
    • Jackhammers and concrete saws
    • Backhoes and trenchers
    • Combustible Gas Indicators - flame-ionization unit
    • Tapping and plugging equipment
    • No blow equipment
    • Forklift
    • Respirators
    • Oxygen analyzer
    • Ultrasound equipment
    • Electro fusion equipment/processor
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Train, test and direct employees performing steel welding, plastic fusion construction and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain logs; compile and prepare reports including but not limited to:
    • Completion reports
    • Inspection logs
    • Training/testing records
    • Accident/first aid reports
    • Completed orders
    • Relocations and retirements
    • Leak reports
    • Mileage reports
  • Review invoices for accuracy (pricing, quantity installed, materials used, etc.).
  • Investigate customer related orders and/or emergency situations including but not limited to:
    • Low pressure calls
    • Class 1 leaks
    • Blowing lines
    • Fires/explosions
    • Undetectable lines
  • Advise and inform customers, contractors, landowners, local authorities, and others relative to construction and/or maintenance work in progress.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience

  • This role typically calls for seven to ten years of relevant experience. (Minimum of six years’ relevant experience are required).
  • Experience in use, function, maintenance, and repair of tools and equipment applicable to position.
  • Experience with application of basic arithmetic:
    • addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Experience in construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution pipeline systems.
  • Experience and knowledge in basic use and function of computers and relevant computer software.
  • Experience and training relative to:
    • Working in excavations and/or confined spaces
    • Basic customer service activities
    • Customer service emergency procedures
    • Company and government operating/safety procedures
    • Plastic fusion
    • One Call System policies and procedures
    • Work Management Systems
  • Working knowledge of welding policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of function and/or maintenance of regulators, chart meters, well meters, cathodic protection, and leakage survey.
  • Experience interpreting maps, atlas pages, blueprints, GIS sketches, and job orders.
  • Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Licenses and Certifications

CDL Required.

Applicable driver's license.

Applicable Operator Qualifications.

Additional Requirements

  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds 10-15 times a day; up to 40 pounds 7-10 times a day; up to 50 pounds 10-12 times a day.
  • Climb into and out of excavations and onto and off of equipment.
  • Travel over uneven terrain including but not limited to:
    • Mud
    • Gravel
    • Sand
    • Rocks
    • Ice
    • Snow
  • React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Smell odorant in natural gas.
  • Detect and react to warning signals at work sites.
  • Able to operate tools and equipment required.
  • Communicate and/or exchange information or instructions.
  • Peripheral vision and accurate depth perception.
  • Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
