Job summary

Northside Hospital is seeking a dedicated medical translator to produce, review, proof, and deliver translations of hospital documents from English into the target language as assigned by the coordinator, ensuring accuracy and cultural appropriateness for patients and staff.

Candidates must have strong English and target language proficiency, medical vocabulary expertise, ATA ethics, CAT tool experience, and at least two years of medical translation experience, plus a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in English and target language; medical terminology knowledge.
• Training or certification in foreign language translation.
• Two years' experience translating medical materials English→target language.
• Adheres to ATA Code of Ethics and Professional Practice.
• Strong word-processing and CAT tool skills.
• Experience with glossaries/translation memories and in medical settings.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• High school diploma

Produces, reviews, proofs, and delivers translations of hospital documents such as medical record forms, patient education materials, and marketing materials from English into the target language as assigned by the coordinator.

REQUIRED:

• 1. Demonstrated proficiency in English and the target language
• 2. Demonstrated superior knowledge of medical vocabulary in the source and target languages
• 3. Training and/or certification in foreign language translation
• 4. Two (2) years' experience translating, proofreading, and editing medical materials from English to the target language
• 5. Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to the American Translators Association (ATA) Code of Ethics and Professional Practice
• 6. Computer skills and knowledge of word-processing programs (i.e. Microsoft Word for Windows)
• 7. Experience working with computer-assisted translation (CAT) programs (i.e. SDL Trados)
• 8. Knowledge of glossaries and translation memories
• 9. Two (2) years' experience in a medical setting or a customer service, advocacy, or related field
• 10. Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
• 11. High school diploma

PREFERRED:

• 1. Previous experience as a translator in a hospital or clinical setting
• 2. Native speaker of target language
• 3. ATA certification or equivalent
• 4. Demonstrated proficiency in a third language
• 5. Higher education degree (Bachelor, Master, etc)
