SMBC Group in White Plains, NY is seeking an Analyst to join the Foreign Exchange operations within the Treasury. You will confirm and settle FX trades and support the CSA Margin Control for the global portfolio.

The role requires familiarity with FX confirmations, margin calls, and back-office systems (FOX, Montran, SAA). You will report to the Director and help meet daily deadlines in a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $67,000.00and $80,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Foreign Exchange unit is a part of the Treasury Operations group within BCDAD and is responsible for the processing of all settlements, confirmations, payments and reconciliations of foreign exchange products, including spots, forwards, swaps and options transactions. This group also provides administrative support to the bank's currency traders.

The Credit Support Annex (""CSA"") Margin Control Department is also within the Treasury Operations group, and works collaboratively with the Inter-Market Settlements Department Tokyo to complete daily margin call negotiations with counterparties. The CSA Margin Control Department is responsible for the USD collateral management for the global OTC derivatives portfolios, and also manages the USD funding and account balancing for Head Office Tokyo and other Branches' nostro accounts located in the United States.

The position will duly support operations within the Foreign Exchange Department and the CSA Margin Control Department.

Scope

The Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely confirmation and settlement of all foreign exchange transactions. This position is primarily transactional and requires a solid understanding of foreign exchange processes, collateral management, and established operational guidelines. The Analyst performs duties under the guidance of more senior staff.

In this role, the Analyst serves as the primary verifier of corporate customer trades and acts as the initial escalation point for related inquiries. More complex issues are escalated to the Vice President or Director as appropriate.

Additionally, the Analyst provides operational support to the Credit Support Annex (“CSA”) Margin Control team by assisting with daily variation and initial margin processing, as well as the collateral payment management. Other responsibilities include the calculation and execution of money transfers to fund Head Office Tokyo and other Branches' USD nostro accounts.

The Analyst reports directly to the Director and has no direct or indirect reports.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of departmental PPM and Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Trading Activities
  • Knowledge of foreign exchange dealing, confirmation and settlement process
  • Knowledge of payments structure through SWIFT, CHIPS, Fedwire and an understanding of CLS confirmation and settlement.
  • Operational knowledge of the applications that support back-office operations (i.e., FOX, CFO/CLS, MONTRAN, Comfort, etc.).
  • Ability to manage and meet intra-day and end-of-day deadlines and complete work accurately.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level customer service mindset with a commitment to supporting both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact with staff cross-departmentally to correct problems on a timely basis.
