Job summary

SMBC Group in the Americas seeks a data platform engineer to analyze, design, and develop the reference data system for securities and pricing data, collaborating with product managers and IT to meet business needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience must include Python programming, APIs, and reference data domains (Bloomberg, fixed income, equities).
  • Familiarity with Azure Databricks, Spark, and Polars is required.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, and develop the data platform, starting with a reference data system for securities and pricing data.
  • Collaborate with business teams, product managers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into applications.
  • Engage with IT, security, and architecture to meet backend functionality and integration needs.
  • Partner with UI/UX and front-end teams to align applications with the broader software ecosystem.
  • Participate in regular development meetings to set priorities and share progress.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $189,592.00and $195,280.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Objectives: Delivery
  • Analyze, design, and develop the data platform, beginning with the establishment of a reference data system for securities and pricing data, and later moving to other data domains.Follow internal developments standards to contribute to the overall agenda of the team.
  • Work with business teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements, needs, or process gaps that would be addressed via proposed applications.
  • Engage with IT systems architects, database administrators, and cyber security team to meet the back-end functionality demands of the application.
  • Partner with graphic artists, user interface designers and front-end engineers to create the front-end interface of the application and optimize user experience.
  • Liaise with other technology and development teams as needed to coordinate on the integration of applications with the larger company software ecosystem. Participate in periodic development meetings to align development priorities and objectives, assign tasks, and share experiences and challenges with applications under development.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Master’s degree in computer science or a related field plus 4 years of experience. Experience must include the following: Python programming; build resilient APIs; Azure Data bricks; Spark and Polars python frameworks/libraries; fixed income and equities reference data; and Bloomberg reference data.
  • The required skills do not need to be maintained over the full term of the required experience.
