Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking an athletics coach to lead a comprehensive program, conduct practices, oversee games, and develop athletes while ensuring compliance with WIAA policies.

Qualifications include recent coaching experience with K-12 students, knowledge of the sport, First Aid/CPR, and strong communication and leadership skills. The role requires dedication to inclusivity, teamwork, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the sport in which applying.
  • Coaching experience with K-12 athletes preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain before start date.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work with diverse students, families and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and articulate a program vision focused on character and positive athlete experience.
  • Recruit student athletes for the coach’s school.
  • Lead practices emphasizing proper technique and mechanics.
  • Attend and supervise games and execute game strategy.
  • Attend yearly Coaches’ Institute training in August.
  • Model sportsmanship and respectful conduct.
  • Organize, supervise, and evaluate practice sessions.
  • Adhere to WIAA, league, district, and school rules.
  • Complete required trainings on sport rules and safety.
  • Maintain uniforms and equipment inventory.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Work as part of a team under Head Coach/AD direction.
  • Be a positive role model and a flexible, cooperative team member.
  • Attend to duties to meet program requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
