Job summary

State of Georgia is seeking a Foodnet Epidemiologist EPI 2 in the Department of Public Health to lead Enteric disease surveillance and data quality for FoodNet projects. The ideal candidate has a master’s in public health and at least two years in epidemiology, with strong data management, visualization, and communication skills.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for conducting Emerging Infections Program (EIP) surveillance activities and special projects throughout Georgia along with collaborating with Emory contractors conducting foodborne disease (FoodNet) surveillance activities. The position is responsible for coordinating surveillance for selected enteric conditions, ensuring case ascertainment and data quality for all FoodNet conditions, conducting data analysis and collaborating closely with other EIP teams and the DPH food/waterborne disease and outbreak team.

Responsibilities

1. Coordinates sharing of EIP data between DPH and Emory EIP contractors
2. Assists in EIP case ascertainment, data collection, and data cleaning
3. Works with biostats and informatics staff to ensure optimal data visualization and data quality.
4. Attend required DPH, Emory, and CDC meetings
5. Performs various duties in support of DPH EIP team and ADES section operations.
6. Prepare written reports and presentations that communicate necessary information to staff, the public, and partners.
7. Identify surveillance needs; assist with design, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of public health surveillance systems.
8. Contributes to CDC cooperative agreement proposals and monitoring activities.
9. Serves as subject matter expert for one or more food or waterborne reportable conditions.

The incumbent will also work closely with district and county health jurisdictions; and maintain knowledge of epidemiologic methods and of current developments in the area of acute disease epidemiology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a related master’s degree in public health (MSPH) from an accredited institution and at least 2 years of experience in epidemiology
• Experience transforming data and manipulating large databases
• Experience working or interning in state or local public health department.
• Experience with data management (preferably R background), analysis and visualization
• Experience communicating public health topics through written and oral platforms
• Experience communicating with laboratory technologists or microbiologists at public health, academic, or clinical setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field; or two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Epidemiologist 1 (HCP180) or position equivalent.
