Job description

Prepares the food for serving and maintains food service equipment and facilities. Follows established standards for production, quality, sanitation, and maintenance; conducts frequent inspections to ensure standards are met; inspects dry stores and refrigerated foods to ensure optimal storage conditions. Works under the guidance of the Lead Cook regarding personnel, equipment, supplies, and meal preparation. Demonstrates proper techniques for food preparation to maximize palatability and appearance while minimizing waste. Prepares or reviews food service records and reports. Estimates food quantities needed for menu requirements and requisitions supplies accordingly. Inspects and tastes prepared foods. Cooks or garnishes foods requiring skillful preparation, including roasts, stews, soups, and sauces.

Qualifications include:

  1. A high school diploma and experience in quantity and quality cooking or baking.
  2. Ability to work collaboratively with the Lead Cook with minimal supervision.
  3. Ability to read and follow recipes.
  4. Must possess a valid SC Driver's license.
  5. Availability to work on weekends.

Knowledge required includes:

  • Procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, and serving of food products.
  • Dietetic principles involved in menu planning for nutritional adequacy, dietary balance, and attractiveness.
  • Principles and procedures of food service management.
  • Methods, materials, and appliances used in a dining facility.
  • Sanitary and safety procedures related to dining operations and food preparation.
  • Ability to maintain food service records and prepare written reports.
