Job summary

The Salvation Army of La Crosse Emergency Shelter is seeking a Food Services Manager to plan, prepare and serve meals for residents and clients, while maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and supervising staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities include creating nutritionally balanced menus, ensuring food safety compliance, managing inventory and coordinating the pantry with donations, and setting up for meetings or events.

Qualifications

• Three years food service experience required.
• Supervisory experience is a plus.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

About the role:

The Salvation Army of La Crosse Emergency Shelter provides a safe shelter for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.Every year, hundreds of men, women, and children are provided emergency shelter and fed over 80,000meals. Community support makes all this possible. Donations of supplies, dollars, and volunteer staffing helpensure the emergency shelter continues serving those in the biggest need.

The Food Services Manager will plan and/or prepare and serve all meals for shelter residents and clients of the meal program. Maintain a clean organized kitchen area. Supervise food services staff & volunteers.

• Prepare nutritionally balance menus for the meal program
• Prepare and cook meals as needed
• Ensure that all kitchen staff adhere to food safety requirements regarding sanitation and food preparation (i.e. hairnets, hats, wearing gloves when handling food, etc.)
• Maintains clean kitchen, pantry, cooler/refrigerator/freezer
• Ensure proper labeling, rotating, and disposing of food and/or donations
• Maintain inventory of food products and supplies
• Ensure all food service equipment properly maintained
• Submit a supply order, through proper protocols, for all necessary items for meal preparation and kitchen area cleaning
• Coordinate food pantry program facilitating the transfer of donated food from the warehouse to keep the pantry stocked each day
• Supervise volunteers, SER National participants, and community service workers assigned to food services
• Prepare and set-up for any special lunches or snacks for any meetings held by staff within facility as requested by the supervisor and/or Corps Officers

Experience: Three years food service experience, supervisory experience a plus

Full-time employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week will be eligible for full benefits, including health, dental, vision and hearing benefits, basic and voluntary life benefits, holiday pay and paid time off, which is pro-rated based on their regularly scheduled work week.

Exempt Employees: Health, dental, vision, and hearing benefits, as well as basic and voluntary life benefits, will begin on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
