Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a dedicated food service worker to provide preparation, delivery, and service of meals for patients and customers. You will assemble patient trays, check menu accuracy, and ensure quality presentation.

The role requires high school diploma or GED and 6–12 months of relevant experience; candidates with 3+ years of food service may also qualify. Duties include restocking, maintaining sanitation, and following health standards.

Qualifications

• Maintains clean, sanitary work areas and disposes of trash.
• Assists with onboarding new staff and attends required trainings.

About the Job

General Summary of Position: Responsible for the preparation storage service and delivery of food to patients and customers at the Washington Hospital Center.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Sets up patient food service stations on trayline according to tally sheets or established departmental par levels.
• Assembles patient meal trays and snacks checking tray for accuracy against computer printout of patient menu selections to ensure patient satisfaction.
• Restocks and/or refills all beverages and food products in the cafeteria serving area.
• Serves cafeteria customers in the serving area portioning food according to departmental standards and assembling the food and garnish attractively according to departmental guidelines.
• Prepares preps and/or cuts necessary foods for use in patients' meals the cafeteria and banquet service according to specified guidelines.
• Stores and displays food and supplies in correct containers and in the proper storage area in accordance with departmental guidelines. Dates labels and rotates refrigerated food (e.g. desserts dairy products and salad bar items) pastries and breads in accordance with departmental procedure of first in/first out.
• Checks and records food and refrigerator temperatures in accordance with established health and departmental policies/standards.
• Strips food carts and meal trays; sorts and rinses dishes and silverware as preparation to their being washed.
• Maintains assigned area in a clean organized and sanitary manner; disposes of trash and obvious clutter as necessary.
• Assists with the orientation of new staff members by demonstrating the basic duties of the job.
• Attends in services and other departmental meetings and training sessions as required including all line up meetings.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• A minimum of 3 years of directly relevant job-related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.

Experience

• 6 to 12 months experience preferably in food service required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Requires the ability to read write and perform basic addition and subtraction.
• Requires the ability to comply with basic oral and written instructions.

This position has a hiring range of

• USD $19.10 - USD $26.52 /Hr.
