Job Overview

The overall responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and serving of a variety of foods, as well as cleaning kitchen equipment. Specific duties involve:

  1. Assisting in food preparation, serving, and transportation for daily menus and special events.
  2. Preparing a la carte, snack bar, and packaged foods.
  3. Washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
  4. Maintaining cleanliness of equipment, serving areas, display counters, and eating areas.
  5. Keeping snack bar and vending machines stocked with food and drinks.
  6. Assisting with inventory, ordering, and stocking of food and supplies.
  7. Supervising student helpers.
  8. Performing related work as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge: Basic understanding of food preparation and serving procedures.

Ability: Follow sanitation and safety procedures; lift or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance; communicate effectively; understand and follow written and oral instructions in English.

Experience: None required; prior experience in food preparation and serving is desirable.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Supervision and Physical Demands

Supervised by Cafeteria Manager I or II, and the Director of Child Nutrition Services. Physical requirements include standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, talking, tasting, smelling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, climbing, balancing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Work near moving mechanical parts, exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme temperatures, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and loud noise levels. Reasonable accommodations can be provided for individuals with disabilities.

Additional Requirements

Job Details

Positions/sites are to be determined. Work hours vary by site and year, e.g., Beaver (3.5 hrs), Sinclear (3-4 hrs).
