Position: Food Service Worker

The Food Service Worker is responsible for delivering and serving patient meals, maintaining sanitation in the food service department—including dishwashing, cart cleaning, and waste disposal—and following strict sanitation guidelines mandated by the Texas Department of Health.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver food trays to patients, serve beverages, and prepare trays for patient access and consumption.
  2. Verify tray accuracy before leaving the kitchen, with no more than one error per day.
  3. Manage floor stock, rotate stock, and discard outdated items.
  4. Wash dishes, pans, and utensils for patients, cafeteria, and catering services.
  5. Sanitize patient carts daily.
  6. Empty trash in the food service area.
  7. Ensure compliance with State, Medicare, The Joint Commission, and other regulations.
  8. Participate actively in departmental meetings.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Successful completion of pre-employment assessment
  • Preferably completed Step One of the Certified Dietary Manager course
  • Ability to read and comprehend
  • Basic computer and typing skills preferred

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to stay calm under stress
  • Physical ability to bend, kneel, lift (10-30 lbs), and perform other physical tasks
  • Exposure to cold and chemical fumes; potential hazards from cuts and burns
