Performs duties related to the preparation and serving of patient food. Assists management with maintaining patient information and temperature logs for refrigerators and freezers. Leads and assists in keeping the patient prep area clean. Establishes interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel while maintaining confidentiality.

Essential Duties
  • Assist management in recording refrigerator and freezer temperature logs and report any issues.
  • Coordinate workflow, set up, and serve patient trays according to schedules and procedures.
  • Verify that patient Kardex is complete and matches the active diet list.
  • Lead and assist in the preparation of early and late trays.
  • Maintain relationships with patients, visitors, and hospital staff, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Refill breakfast carts and serve breakfast to patients.
  • Notify Registered Dietitian of patient complaints or concerns.
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies, including cleaning tasks.
  • Pull items needed for patient meals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and establish procedures.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent; if not, some experience in hospitality, nutrition, dietary services, or food industry/customer service.
  • Active involvement with professional food service organizations.
  • Experience in hospitality, nutrition, or dietary services.
  • Certification such as a Food Handler or ServSafe Certificate.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); must be obtained within 30 days if not already held.

The hourly rate ranges from $21.00 to $29.77. USC considers various factors when extending employment offers, including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
