Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Food Service Worker position is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. This position is located in a Child Development Center (CDC) but may assist with food preparation for the School Age Care (SAC) Program.

Duties

The CYP Food Service Worker performs various tasks in food service preparation, including:

  • Assisting in food preparation such as peeling potatoes, cutting, sorting, and washing vegetables and fruits, assembling sandwiches, and measuring ingredients.
  • Stocking food service carts with utensils, plates, bowls, food, and beverages for family-style dining.
  • Wrapping, arranging, and packaging items for serving to children and youth.
  • Transporting food from kitchen to classrooms or activity areas.
  • Returning carts and dishes to the kitchen and disposing of food waste.
Kitchen Maintenance
  • Washing pots, pans, dishes, and utensils according to sanitation regulations.
  • Cleaning food preparation and service areas, cupboards, and equipment.
  • Operating and maintaining dishwashing equipment.
  • Performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks in the food service areas.
Food Storage
  • Labeling and dating items in refrigerators and freezers.
  • Storing canned, boxed, and frozen items appropriately.
  • Unloading food and supplies from delivery trucks.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Complying with security, fire, and sanitation rules and policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with USDA CACFP standards and regulations.
  • Serving as a mandatory reporter for child abuse and neglect.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Conditions include passing background checks, a pre-employment physical, immunizations, and maintaining security clearance. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods is required. Must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

Experience with food handling, measuring ingredients, basic arithmetic, sanitation standards, and effective communication skills are required. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of diet principles and ability to develop recipes.

Education

H.S. Diploma or equivalent. Submission of diploma or transcripts is mandatory when applying.
