Job description

Join to apply for the Food Service Worker (Cook II) role at State of Missouri

Working with the Division of Youth Services is more than it seems. You will be working with staff to create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in our day treatment and residential programs. This is a second-level food service position that receives general supervision in preparing and cooking more complex menu items in a treatment program for youth.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Preparing major meals in a large institutional kitchen.
  2. Assisting in meal preparation by measuring ingredients, mixing, boiling, frying, monitoring temperatures, etc., and being familiar with kitchen terminology and equipment.
  3. Requisitioning supplies, ensuring quality and quantity, maintaining inventory accuracy, and conducting monthly stock checks.
  4. Developing menus that comply with nutritional guidelines for well-balanced meals.
  5. Completing reports and correspondence accurately and timely.
  6. Maintaining safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
  7. Handling large portions and ensuring proper storage and rotation of food items to prevent spoilage and waste.
  8. Working long hours standing in a hot kitchen environment.
  9. Supervising cleaning of kitchen and food service areas.
  10. Supervising youth and helpers in food preparation, safety, and sanitation.
  11. Performing other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of kitchen procedures and sanitation, ability to prepare complex menu items, and proficiency with automated systems, spreadsheets, and databases. Requires 1-2 years of experience as a Food Service Assistant or equivalent, with substitutions possible through college credits or related experience.
