Job description

Food Service Worker - Atchison Elementary School (4 hours daily - 20 hours weekly)

The Food Service Worker Substitute assists in food preparation and kitchen operations.

General Functions
  • Assist in the food preparation.
  • Ensure all activities conform to District community and KSDE guidelines.
  • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner meeting deadlines as assigned.
  • Have knowledge concerning the appropriate operation of all kitchen equipment.
  • Implement the vision and mission of the District.
  • Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Implement and follow all District health and safety policies.
  • Regular attendance is required of all employees subject to allowed leave in accordance with district policy or negotiated agreement as appropriate. Excessive absences or tardiness unauthorized leave or unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action including termination of employment.

Assist the food service site manager in food service operations.

  • Prepare food items to be served in planned quantities at a stated time.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Know and practice basic principles of quantity food cookery.
  • Practice proper operation of equipment to assure safety and avoid damage to equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment properly.
  • Follow standardized recipes carefully; weigh and measure food ingredients accurately.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Assist with service as needed using established portion control standards.
  • Practice good personal hygiene and food safety.
  • Prepare accurate time sheets for each pay period. Come to work every day and on time.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Food Service Site Manager.
