Skills and Knowledge: Understanding of basic food handling techniques. Ability to follow oral instructions and perform routine manual tasks involving few steps. Knowledge of personal hygiene standards and simple food handling practices such as wearing a hairnet, washing hands before handling food, and avoiding touching rims of cups. Ability to read and understand written instructions, schedules, menus, and recipes. Capable of working safely by maneuvering carts without hitting objects, stacking dishes properly, and cleaning up spills to prevent falls. Basic arithmetic knowledge may be necessary.
Responsibility: Performs routine and repetitive work after initial instructions. Work is easily observed and checked.
Physical Effort: Requires light to moderate physical effort, including frequently lifting or moving objects. Constant standing and walking. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 lbs independently and over 20 lbs with assistance.
Working Conditions: The work area is usually noisy, with a risk of slipping on wet or food-spilled floors. Exposure to extreme temperatures in the kitchen and walk-in refrigerator, with potential minor cuts and bruises. Steam and heat may cause high temperatures.
