John F. Kennedy Middle School in Waltham, MA is seeking a part-time Cafeteria Worker (5.5 hours) to support the school food service program. Responsibilities include food preparation, serving, cash handling, and ensuring sanitary conditions. Must be Serve Safe certified and able to lift 40 lbs. Strong communication with students and staff is essential. Prior food service experience is a plus.

Starting date is immediate. This is a part-time, on-site role within Waltham Public Schools.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and follow recipes.
• Ability to stand for the duration of the shift.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Strong written and verbal communication with students and staff.

• Participates in the cooking and preparation of a wide variety of food items including main dishes, baked goods, sandwiches and salads.
• Set up serving areas and steam tables; serve food to students and faculty.
• Count milk and other food items as assigned.
• Adhere to safe and sanitary working practices and procedures. Must be “Serve Safe” certified.
• Collect money and make change. Use a cash register effectively.
• Operate a variety of standard kitchen equipment including but not limited to oven, slicer, mixer, steam table, warmer, fryolator and steamer.
• Assure food items and supplies are stored properly.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Must be able to read and understand how to follow a recipe.
• Must be able to stand for duration of work shift.
• Must be able to lift 40lbs.
• Communicate both written and verbally with students and adults effectively.
• Eligible to participate in professional development classes when offered.
