Position Overview

Work as a key team member in a dynamic, high-volume food service environment with other full-time and student employees. Responsibilities include providing customer service, assembling and serving food, preparing beverages, assisting cooks, cashiering, and maintaining cleanliness.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform basic food preparation tasks such as paring fruits and vegetables, reheating soups, assembling sandwiches and salads, toasting bread, and preparing beverages.
  2. Set up workstations and display counters according to production sheets and plans.
  3. Restock and rotate station supplies following policies and procedures.
  4. Handle customer orders, answer questions about ingredients, recipes, and pricing.
  5. Assemble, package, and serve menu items.
  6. Prepare specialty beverages upon customer request.
  7. Operate point of sale system, process sales accurately, and handle payments following PCI standards.
  8. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, prep areas, and service counters.
  9. Properly handle, wrap, label, and store unused food.
  10. Document food production, waste, and recipe adjustments.
  11. Clean and maintain order in work areas, including sweeping and mopping.
  12. Report safety issues or equipment malfunctions.
  13. May supervise student or hourly staff.
  14. Participate in inventory and serve at catered or special events.
  15. Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other wares.
  16. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Details

Positions are available on 9-month or 11.5-month cycles, located across various UW Dining venues and shifts (days, evenings, weekends). Schedules may change with two weeks’ notice.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment.

Equivalent education or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications unless legal requirements apply.
