POSITION: Food Service Worker
LOCATION: Elementary / Secondary School
HOURS: 6 hours/ day, 180 Days/year
Representation: Public School Employees of Washington

Position Description: Under general supervision, assist the Food Service Director and Assistant Cook in the food service operation within the school, including the school lunch and breakfast programs.
Essential Job Functions
- Participates in the cleaning of the kitchen, assuring that standards of sanitation and safety are met.
- Operates and maintains proper care of cooking equipment.
- Assists in the serving of food.
- Safeguards inventory from spoilage and/or loss.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance in the workplace.
- Cover for Assistant Cook position, as needed.
- Follows production records according to USDA guidelines for meal preparation and as provided by the Food Service Director.
- Knowledge and use of Point-of-Sale System (i.e., Skyward Student Software)
Other Job Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Be in the kitchen ready to work at the scheduled start time. (“Ready” means hair is properly restrained, hands are washed, and apron is on).
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Education And Experience
- Experience or training in food handling.
- Prior school district food service department experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge And Or Abilities
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to develop and maintain a positive relationship with students, staff, parents and community members.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to move or lift moderate to heavy items.
- Ability to be a positive role model for students.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Other
- Possess a valid State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Worker Permit.
- Hold current First Aid/CPR card, preferred.

- Significant: (i.e., sitting, talking, hearing, walking, vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception, ability to adjust focus, grasping, handling paperwork, repetitive motion, use of personal computer, looking at a computer monitor, lifting up to 10 pounds)
- Frequent: (i.e., standing, bending, carrying; use of phone; use of copy machine)
- Occasional: (i.e., driving, lifting over 10 pounds up to 45 pounds, reaching above the shoulder, use of fax machine)
Significant - Occupation requires this activity more than 66% of time (5.5+ hrs/day)
Frequent - Occupation requires this activity from 33% to 66% of time (2.5 to 5.5+ hrs/day)
Occasional - Occupation requires this activity up to 33% of time (0 to 2.5+ hrs/day)
