Job summary

Continental Services is seeking a Food Service Worker for the GMT Cole Cafe at GM Tech. The role covers food preparation, cooking, cleaning, stocking and delivering excellent customer service.

The candidate should have 1 year of food service experience, strong prep skills, and be comfortable with cash handling and teamwork in a fast-paced setting. Duties include maintaining the salad bar, merchandising, and ensuring safety and sanitation throughout the shift.

Qualifications

• 1 year of food service experience required; strong food-prep skills preferred.
• Knowledge of techniques and equipment for preparing, serving, storing and handling food and beverages.
• Mathematics: ability to add/subtract, charge appropriately and give correct change.
• Suggestive selling or influencing others to buy merchandise or goods.
• Customer service: experience working with the public and handling inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation: Assisting with food preparation such as creating fruit cups, maintaining the salad bar, stocking food supplies.
• Sales Service: Engage with and provide superior service to all customers; answer questions and communicate procedures or policies; handle orders and complaints.
• Cash Handling: Process sales, accept payments, issue receipts, balance cash drawer at end of shift.
• Teamwork: Support a positive team environment and maintain calm during high volume periods.
• Merchandise: Organize and stock supplies and rotate grab-and-go items to boost sales.
• Safety & Sanitation: Follow health and sanitation guidelines; clean and sanitize work areas and equipment.

Compensation: $19.75 / hour

Description

The Food Service Worker is responsible for food preparation, cooking, cleaning, stocking, organizing, and providing excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Food Preparation : Assisting with food preparation such as creating fruit cups, maintaining the salad bar, stocking food supplies, etc.
• Sales Service : Engage with and provide superior service to all customers. Answer customers' questions, and provide information on procedures or policies. Communicate with customers regarding orders, comments, and complaints.
• Cash Handling : Establish or identify prices of goods and capture sales in the point of sales system. Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers. Ensure accuracy of payments and change disbursements. Balance the cash drawer at the end of each shift.
• Teamwork : Contribute to a positive team environment. Recognize and reinforce individual and team accomplishments. Identify alarms or changes in morale and performance. Maintain calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to set a positive example for the team.
• Merchandise : Organize and stock supplies, service stations and products. Rotate products and stock grab-and-go items throughout shift to increase sales. Follow-up placement protocols to optimize customer sales.
• Safety & Sanitation : Follow operational policies and procedures. Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines. Clean, sanitize and organize work areas, utensils, and equipment. Clean service and seating areas. Scrub and polish counters, tables, and other equipment. Perform other duties such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes, to keep equipment and facilities sanitary.

Job Requirements

• 1 year of food service experience required. Strong food prep skills preferred.
• Food/Beverage Production — Knowledge of techniques and equipment for preparing, serving, storing and handling food and beverage products.
• Mathematics — Ability to add and subtract, charging appropriately and distributing change to customers.
• Suggestive Selling or Influencing Others — Suggesting others to buy merchandise/goods or to otherwise change their minds or actions.
• Customer Service — Working with the public. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services.
