Job summary

St. Tammany Health System is seeking a Hospital Kitchen Assistant responsible for general cleaning of the kitchen, sanitation of dishes, and helping with tray delivery to patients.

Must communicate effectively and follow instructions; shifts include weekends/holidays. This essential role supports patient care by maintaining clean facilities, proper chemical dilution, and timely meal service while upholding CARES and HACCP standards.

Qualifications

• No experience necessary.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and follow both verbal and/or written instructions.
• Must be able to work anytime weekdays, weekends and holidays between the hours of 5:30 am and 8:00 pm.
• This position is considered essential during emergency conditions.
• Exhibits consistent customer/patient focus showing courtesy and respect.
• Willingness to comply with dress code, CARES and HACCP standards.
• Must be able to make decisions based on experience and training.
• Must have ability and willingness to learn proper procedures for washing and sanitizing equipment, dishes & pots and pans.
• Must be able to follow guidelines for tray/cart delivery and pick up.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and sanitizes dishes, silverware, pots, pans, utensils, etc.; sorts and examines all for cleanliness and re-cleans as necessary.
• Collects and disposes of garbage.
• Completes the dish machine and pot sink sanitation log.
• Maintains correct dilution of chemicals: cleans and maintains dish machine salvajor and pulper.
• Cleans floors, walk-ins, storage areas and kitchen.
• Retrieve carts.
• Works the dish room, line trays, roll silverware, etc.
• Helps wherever and whenever needed to ensure trays are prepared and delivered to patients within established timelines.
• Communicates politely and effectively with staff and patients.
• Assumes the role of patient advocate.
• Helps wherever and whenever needed.
• Demonstrates acceptance of CARES and HACCP standards.

Physical Demands

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
