Job summary

Avera Gregory Hospital is seeking a dedicated food service worker to support meal preparation and service for patients and staff. You will assemble meals, ensure accuracy to dietary requirements, and maintain clean, sanitized work areas in a fast-paced hospital kitchen.

Responsibilities include serving meals, stocking areas, operating dish machines, and potentially handling the cash register. Regular shifts include days and weekends, with a focus on teamwork and patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• The candidate must be able to perform each essential job function including visual acuity and effective communication.
• One to six months of food service experience preferred.
• Strong attention to hygiene and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize assigned food items efficiently and accurately for patients and other customers.
• Serve food items in accordance with diet, specifications and menu requirements.
• Cleans and sanitizes equipment, utensils and work areas following proper procedures.
• Stock storerooms, refrigerators and work areas with supplies using FIFO and dating.
• Operate dish machine and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• May work the register, close out register and handle money.

Position Highlights

Shift times: 6am-2:30pm, 8:30am-5pm & 11:30am-8pm (you'd work some of each shift) + Every other Weekend/Holiday You Belong at Avera Be part of a multidisciplinary team built with compassion and the goal of Moving Health Forward for you and our patients. Work where you matter. A Brief Overview Helps provide quality customer meals through snack and meal assembly, service, and cleanup. Assist with meal service activities.

What you will do

• Prepare and organize assigned food items efficiently and accurately for patients and other customers.
• Serve food items in accordance with diet, specifications and menu requirements.
• Cleans and sanitizes equipment, utensils, dishes, pots/pans, floor mats, floors, and work areas following proper procedure.
• Stocks storerooms, refrigerators and work areas with supplies using first in, first out principle and appropriate dating.
• Operates dish machine and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• May work the register, close out register and counts money.
• Properly places money and money drawer in designated location.

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience

• High School or GED Equivalent
• One to six months of food service experience
