Job Summary

The Food Service Worker (Cafeteria Worker) assists in the preparation, presentation, and serving of specialty meats, delicacies, preserved foods, cheeses, salads, breads, and sweets to patrons in a cafeteria, delicatessen, or bakery setting. The incumbent is responsible for weighing, pricing, and wrapping selected foods on plates, trays, or in bags, as well as preparing food displays in counter cases and other display units. Additionally, they greet customers upon arrival at the service counter, take special orders, and provide basic information about specialty foods.

Primary Duties

• Set up food on self-serving lines and portion food for individual servings in accordance with instructions.

• Refill cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, and set up dining rooms.

• Replace glassware, dishes and silverware and refill condiment containers. Wipe and wash tables and countertops.

• Clean work area, utensils and equipment; remove garbage; mop floors, walls, windows and tables.

• Remove dirty dishes, glasses and silverware from serving counters. Mix washing solutions and operate electric dish washing machine and wash dishes, glassware, pots and pans and kitchen utensils by hand.

Additional Responsibilities

• Maintain in a sanitary condition equipment and work areas, utensils and tables.

• Perform ware-washing, and keep pot and pan areas in order prior to, during and after meals.

• Follow correct techniques, cleaning schedules and tasks.

• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

• High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.

• One-year food service-related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong customer service skills preferred.

• Neat, well-groomed appearance required.
