Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Food Service Worker within the Nutrition and Food Services department to support patient meals and adherence to dietary restrictions. Responsibilities include following food safety standards, labeling foods, and assisting with training new staff.

The role supports high standards of sanitation, patient service delivery, and collaboration with kitchen operations. A High School Diploma or GED is preferred, with on‑the‑job training available.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Hospital food service experience preferred, but on-the-job training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to all food safety guidelines when handling food.
• Ensures all food in refrigerators are labeled and covered.
• Ensures food preparation follows dietary restrictions (low sodium, low fat, diabetic, etc.) as set forth in the approved Diet Manual.
• Participates in patient food operations; ensuring that services are performed following high standards of food safety and sanitation.
• Takes immediate actions to correct problems related to patient food operations or meal service delivery.
• Adheres to uniform policy for assigned areas.
• Cleans assigned areas, equipment and utensils at the end of each meal according to established procedures.
• Flexible with schedule to meet department demands.
• Demonstrates safety awareness by lifting correctly, wiping up spills, and using carts to transport items.
• Assists in training of new Food Service Workers and serves as a resource for questions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Responsibilities

Adheres to all food safety guidelines when handling food. Ensures all food in refrigerators are labeled and covered. Ensures food preparation follows dietary restrictions (low sodium, low fat, diabetic, etc.) as set forth in the approve Diet Manual Participates in patient food operations; ensuring that services are performed following high standards of food safety and sanitation; serving food in a wholesome, palatable and attractive manner. Takes immediate actions to correct problems related to patient food operations or meal service delivery. Adheres to uniform policy for assigned areas. Cleans assigned areas, equipment and utensils at the end of each meal according to established procedures. Flexible with schedule to meet department demands. Demonstrates a clear understanding of safety in the work area by lifting correctly, wiping up spills, and using carts to transport items and other steps to avoid accidents. Follows appropriate procedures in the preparation, handling and service of food items. Assist in the training of new Food Service Workers and serve as a resource for problems and/or questions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

License/Registration/Certification Not applicable. Education High School Diploma or GED preferred. Experience Hospital food service experience preferred, but on-the-job training is provided.
